12-Year-Old Wins First Heirs Life Essay Contest

A 12-year-old schoolboy from Gateway Schools, Enugu, Ugbomyke Princewill Ebubechukwu emerged as the winner of the first edition of the Heirs Life Essay Championship. The national competition was organized by Heirs Life Assurance (HLA) with over a thousand entries submitted from across the country. A statement from Heir’s head of communications, Timilehin Adebiyi, confirms this.
As the overall winner, Princewill received a brand new laptop, the 1st place prize, while owner Dr. Loveline Ndu received the Heirs Life Essay Championship Cup and N500,000 pounds and other educational materials for the school (Gateway Schools) during the award ceremony held recently in Enugu.
Participating students were tasked with submitting a 500 word essay on the topic “If I were the President of Nigeria”. The more than 1000 applications received were scored by a team of experts under the guidance of an eminent English language teacher, followed by a selection interview for better quality assurance.
Other winners, according to Adebiyi, include Purity Chukwudi Chetachi, a Base 5 student from Star of Hope School in Lagos, who came out first runner-up and won a cash prize of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000), and Abidoye Habeeb, a JSS 2 student from Mivara Secondary School, Lagos who won third place with a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000).

CEO/CEO of Heirs Life Assurance, Niyi Onifade, pointed out that the essay contest was designed to showcase Nigeria’s highly intellectual young future leaders.
He said, “All the students who entered this contest are winners. However, we can only reward a few. Indeed, the quality of the essays we received from these amazing students was mesmerizing and the winner, Princewill Ugbomyke, spoke in such a remarkable way that one could easily visualize his dreams for our country. We congratulate Princewill, his school and the other finalists, and wish them all a very bright future.
