Bicentennial committee announces essay competition

Bicentennial organizers invite children, teens and adults to share their ideas for the future of Bartholomew County for the chance to win cash prizes and other honors.

The Bartholomew County: Your Vision for Our Future Essay Contest is sponsored by the Columbus Area Bicentennial Committee and open to current residents of Bartholomew County.

“It takes visionary people who work together to build a better future,” said the organizers in the competition description. “One person can make a difference, but our community also believes that we are better together. With that in mind, please share your vision for what the future of our country can be.

The competition is divided into three categories: Kindergarten to Grade 6, Grades 7 to 12, and Adults (18 and over).

The winners will be announced in December 2021. According to the entry form, the first place winners in each category will receive $ 400. They will also be invited to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the 1821 Trail Extension, and their names will be inscribed on commemorative bricks along the trail. Second place winners in each category will receive $ 100.

All essay submissions will be archived and used by both the Bicentennial Committee and the Bartholomew County Historical Society.

The maximum length of the essays is 450 words. Submissions must be made by midnight November 12th.
