Colleton Soil and Water Conservation District Poster and Essay Contest Announcement

PRESS RELEASE – The Colleton Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors its annual poster and essay contest for public, private and home school students in Colleton County.

The subject of this year’s contest is “The Voyages of the Turtles…The Life of a Loggerhead Sea Turtle”. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about South Carolina’s state reptile, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is protected under the Endangered Species Act. Sea turtles are an important part of the ocean ecosystem and they play a crucial role in marine life. One of the ways we can help protect sea turtles is by preserving their natural habitat.

The poster competition is open to special education students and students from kindergarten to grade 5. The subject of the contest is “Turtle Travels…The Life of a Loggerhead Sea Turtle”. The poster contest is a class project in which the winners of each grade level receive a cash prize for their class.

The essay contest is for students in grades 6-8. The subject of the contest is “The Voyages of the Turtles…The Life of a Loggerhead Sea Turtle”. The Essay Contest is an individual project with winners from each grade level receiving first, second and third place prizes.

All contest entries must be delivered to the Colleton Conservation District office at 531 boul. Robertson, Suite B no later than January 17, 2023 before 4:00 p.m.
