Doha: Bank of Doha CEO Dr R. Seetharaman was honored at the recent ICAI International Research Awards 2021, where he received the Silver Shield from the hands of the Governor of Jharkhand and guest of honor of the event, Shri Ramesh Bais, for his research article on “Economic Implications of Global Citizenship” in the Economy category.

Organized by the Research Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the event was attended by nearly 3,000 Chartered Accountants from around the world, and was also attended by the President of ICAI , Nihar Jambusaria, and other section leaders abroad.

ICAI International Research Awards 2021 is considered the world’s largest cross-border research competition. The 118 published research papers were received from 15 countries which were reviewed by a panel of subject matter experts, distinguished technical reviewers and an international jury from different continents.

The award jury was chaired by Alan Johnson, President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Seetharaman was the first research paper presenter from Qatar to receive the coveted award.

During the technical session of the event, Seetharaman discussed “research findings on the economic implications of global citizenship”. He said: “Modern technology creates a unique global culture and promotes global citizenship. Today, it is increasingly recognized that, as we move towards a world without borders, politics and economics must converge globally and that territorial integrity is only incidental. Economic integration will create more dynamic groupings and transform the economies of many countries, thus contributing to its sustainable development ”.

Speaking on global governance, Seetharaman stressed the need to define ways and means to build global partnerships to support global growth.

Emphasizing the importance of youth empowerment and culture, he said: “Young people who do not receive a multicultural education are likely to see the interconnected society and economy as a threat rather than an opportunity. They can also passively perpetuate global injustices rather than working to create a better and shared future. Global citizenship education helps young people develop the basic skills that enable them to actively engage in the world and help make it a more just and sustainable place. Global citizenship encourages cultural diversity ”.

Seetharaman also spoke about financial inclusion and digitization. He said technological innovations – such as mobile payments, mobile banking and identifying borrowers using biometric data – are making it easier and cheaper for people to use financial services, while at the same time. increasing financial security.

“The impact of new technologies can be amplified by the adoption by the private sector of business models that complement technology platforms. In the 21st century, due to the excessive influx of technology, customers are citizens of the world and they go online through multiple devices and social media networks and lead a digitized lifestyle. Technology has improved connectivity, improved exhibits and contributed to global citizenship, ”he added.

Earlier, ICAI Doha Chapter President Nirlep Bhatt introduced Seetharaman and also addressed the assembly.
