GCU becomes partner of Lahore – The City Of Literature Project
Lahore Government College University (GCU) has become a partner of the city district government in the project “Lahore – the city of literature” to promote literary activities in the provincial metropolis.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 20, 2021): Government College University (GCU) of Lahore has become a partner of the city district government in the project “Lahore – the city of literature” for promote literary activities in the metropolitan province.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Asghar Zaidi and Commissioner Lahore Capt (ret’d) Muhammad Usman signed an agreement on Monday while prominent poet Amjad Islam Amjad was also present.
Lahore was designated “City of Literature” by UNESCO in 2019. It is part of an international network of Creative Cities of 246 cities, alongside cities like Dublin, Barcelona, Melbourne and Seattle.
The VC announced that GCU Lahore will usher in the prestigious partnership with the First National Student Societies Summit initiative, where representatives of different student societies from renowned universities will be brought together under one platform.
He said that the Iqbal International Conference, Faiz Festival, Debate, Poetry and Creative Writing Competitions are some of the many initiatives that GCU hopes to organize through this collaboration.
He said it was a matter of great pride, as many prominent poets and writers, including Eastern Poet Dr Allama Muhammed Iqbal, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Patras Bokhari, studied at Government College (now University ) Lahore.
Renowned poet Amjad Islam Amjad read his poem on the city of literature, which was widely applauded.
Capt (ret’d) Muhammad Usman said the agreement was a step towards bringing all literary activities together under the umbrella of “Lahore – the city of literature”.
