James Brandon Lewis and the Red Lilley Quartet -Jessup Wagon for Poets for Jazz Poetry Month – In person or online from Alphabet City at your own location. Tuesday September 28 at 7 p.m.
The Red Lily Quartet is made up of musicians James brandon lewis (saxophone), Kirk knuffke(horn), William parker (low), Chris Hoffmann (cello), and Chad Taylor (drum and mbira).
Performance of Lewis’ latest album, a conceptual piece exploring the life and work of agronomist, inventor and social justice activist George Washington Carver. Carver, best known for inventing over 300 ways to use peanuts, was the most important black farmer of the 20th century. And Lewis intends to evoke his memory, his heritage, through song. This is an album of extensive research – Lewis has flowed through Carver’s correspondence and farmer newsletters, but it’s also a deeply moving and evocative journey through the dark genius.
There are two ways to watch the program: in person at Alphabet City or live online. If you come live, you can also dine at the hotel restaurant 40 North.

To ensure the safety of our public, we will need proof of vaccination (physical card or photo) to attend all events at Alphabet City.
There will be special accommodations for children under 12 and people with health problems or religious beliefs preventing them from getting vaccinated. These members of the public will be asked to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of the performance start time, or of a negative COVID-19 antigen test completed within 6 hours. following the start time of the performance.
All guests will be required to wear masks.
Audience size will be limited to 60% of total capacity and seats will be installed with moderate social distancing.
Remember that there is a restaurant, 40 North, inside our open concept location. Guests must show proof of vaccination but will not wear a mask when seated at the table.
