JNU to establish Ambedkar Center for Sociopolitical Equality Research


Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will soon have a Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Center and Chair that will conduct research on reducing socio-political and economic inequalities.

The center and academic chair have been agreed to be established at the university through an agreement between JNU and the Dr. Ambedkar International Center (DAIC) of the Ministry of Social Justice.



JNU Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit on Friday signed the agreement with DAIC Director Dr. Vikas Trivedi of Banaras Hindu University.

“JNU will now have a Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Center and Chair…The center will primarily focus on research aimed at reducing socio-political and economic inequalities,” the university said in a Facebook post.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, Dr. Virender Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Union Empowerment, and A Narayanaswamy, Minister of State of the Union for Social Justice and Empowerment, he said.
