Poetry Brothel Hastings debuts
The organizers promise a perfect event for “the sapio-sexual, poetry lovers, music lovers, romantics, artists, wordmakers, bohemians, rebels, foreigners, the idle rich and the curious”.
Founded by Debra Watson (aka Bibi Synthe) with Naomi Wood (aka Mrs Wood), this is the first East Sussex-based Poetry Brothel and the first UK Poetry Brothel to host a live event in person since the lockdown.
They emphasize: this is not a sex show.
Bibi Synthe and Ms Wood met while performing for The Poetry Brothel London between 2016-2020 and decided to start something in Hastings / East Sussex when they each found themselves moving during the lockdown.
Debra explained, âThe Poetry Brothel is a performance poetry collective, created in New York City by Stephanie Berger and Nicholas Adamski with the aim of pushing poetry out of the suffocating confines of institutions in your sweaty hands.
âMany PB poets formed chapters in new cities and poetry brothels can now be found in many European and American cities including London, Berlin, Barcelona, ââMadrid, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Helsinki, Mexico City, the Venezuela and now Hastings. , where we will welcome lovers of poetry and Hasting music in the enchanting intimacy of a Poetry Bordel evening.
âOn the menu we have longtime poetry brothel artists Mrs. Wood, Artic Trixie (Hen Ni Linnea), Blackbird (Paul Shine) and Madame Bibi Synthe, joined by new ones to the poetry brothel, but poets and seasoned performers, Alfo the poet and Galina (Jude Montagu).
âThis will be an opportunity to sample the delights of an intimate salon and if you like what you hear, come back to experience something truly magical at the next event with our personalized one-on-one readings.
âWe are LGBTQI + welcoming. “
