Poetry Walk at Green Island features poems by Mike Tauber this September – Wadena Pioneer Journal

WADENA — This month’s Poetry Walk at Green Island in Wadena, Minnesota features poems by Mike Tauber.
Mike grew up, lives and works in the Pineland Sands/Headwaters area of Minnesota. It has firm value for intact ecological systems. Much of his life is centered on demonstrating the value of these local natural systems, the wisdom to operate within, to preserve and propagate these systems and their downstream components.

Green Island is a 60-acre parcel of land located in the town of Wadena, Minnesota, owned by Kent Scheer and Vicki Chepulis whose land management includes creating a space where people are welcome to enjoy the peace and the beauty of a space carefully cultivated to experience nature. Like the gardens of Europe, there are places to stroll through the woods, sit under a tree and read, or enjoy a picnic with a friend. The grounds also include a working orchard, rare herb gardens, wild deer and white doves cooing softly from their dovecote. Interspersed in the atmosphere of a park are sculptures created by Kent. There are also 12 small information posts along the trails where the poems are displayed, alternating with educational texts providing information on the purpose and function of the new Green Island Forest. Each month, a different selection of poets will be presented during the poetic walk.

Green Island is located at 850 Scheer Drive, Wadena. It is open daily to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
