Rochester students among winners, honorable mentions for Mayor for a Day Essay Contest

“The League of Minnesota Cities hosts this annual essay contest to raise awareness of city services that are part of our daily lives and to inspire the next generation of city leaders.”

Winners:

  • Mallory Groskreutz (Grade 6) – Waseca County/New Richland
  • Emma Maleszewski (5th year) – Rochester
  • Kylee Zobitz (6th grade) – Ely

Honorable mentions:

  • Foster Ayumbu (Grade 6) – Elk River
  • Paxton Fisher (6th grade) – Zimmerman
  • Scarlett Chance (Grade 6) – Hartland
  • Elliana Johnson (4th year) – Rochester

Winning essays will be published in the March-April issue of Minnesota Cities magazine. In addition to the publication, winners receive a plaque and a check for $100. Students with honorable mention receive a certificate and recognition in the magazine.

The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest asks the question:

“Cities provide a variety of services and programs that improve our lives, including parks and recreation, street maintenance, water and sewer, libraries, police, fire, and more! If you were mayor for a day, what would you do to further improve one of the services your city offers?”
