Springfield Library Hosts Master Class Poetry Workshop

SPRINGFIELD Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Poet Laureate Magdalena Gómez will have a master class poetry workshop and applications are now open.

The Springfield City Library welcomes women, teenage girls and those identified as women interested in an introduction to writing and performing inviting, exciting and inspiring poetry.

“Poetry has long been extremely popular among Springfield residents of all ages. From our shelves to open mic events, contests and workshops, the library has responded by offering people a variety of ways to find joy, cope with pain, and explore their voices through poetry. We are delighted to partner with Magdalena to expand these offerings. “

Jean Canosa Albano, Deputy Director of Public Services at the Springfield City Library,

The series of programs entitled Pronounced / spoken words, is aimed at participants at all levels in their writing and poetic performance. This Master Class is intended for all those who really love poetry and / or oral creation and wish to share this passion with others. And will eventually end with a public performance by the participants at the Mason Square Branch library.

Ms. Gómez said: “Participants will receive tools and encouragement to conjure up poems and voices for the interpretation of their original writing. All we ask is your willingness to participate fully and bring a poem that matters to you in your first session, whether you wrote it or not.

Mayor Domenic Sarno recently extended Gómez’s tenure as Springfield’s poet laureate for one year.
