UP seniors can enter an essay competition | News, Sports, Jobs
MARQUETTE – Upper Peninsula High School seniors planning to enroll in college or university in the fall of 2022 and pursue a health care field are invited to enter an essay contest celebrating National Rural Health Day .
Cash prizes are to be awarded in the Eastern, Central and Western regions of the UP of $ 500 for first place, $ 250 for second and $ 100 for third. The registration deadline is Friday.
The competition is sponsored by the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health and the Michigan Center for Rural Health.
The essay topic to be covered, in 500 words or less, is: “As a resident of UP Michigan, in what ways could emergency medical services agencies and communities interact to build and strengthen relationships that can further improve recruitment, retention and overall success?” UP EMS staff and agencies? “
According to a press release, the topic’s online introduction indicates that a shortage of paramedics and emergency medical services began a few years ago in Michigan and has been exacerbated by the pandemic.
Winners will be notified the second week of November and the first-place essays will be shared with newspapers in the students’ hometowns with the hope that the essays will be published on November 18, which is National Rural Health Day. The winners will receive their prizes in January.
